Eucalyptus Operculum drawing was a finalist in the Heysen Landscape Prize 2024.

Artist Statement:

Eucalyptus Operculum’ captures the moment the Corymbia ficifolia bud bursts, releasing the stamen from behind the operculum (cap) revealing the stigma. The stigma is a symbol of life and illustrates the beauty and complexity of nature but also its inherent fragility. The intricate detail is rendered with subtle gradients which represents the tender balance of our ecosystem.

My drawing brings nature to the forefront and highlights its beauty and continuous cycle of growth and transformation. The depiction of this delicate moment reminds us of the importance of environmental stewardship and connection with nature.

This pen, ink and graphite drawing is on Fabriano Artistico 650GSM paper and is professionally framed in Solid Tasmanian Oak with a mount.
